What is Mindfulness?
The good old Oxford Dictionary defines mindfulness in two ways:
1. the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something
ie: "their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition"
2. a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
Both of these definitions are the foundation for what I like to call, mindful memories.
What Are Mindful Memories?
From a micro perspective, Mindful Memories are moments of connection between kids and their caregivers.
Yet, Mindful Memories also deserve to be considered from a macro lens, that's where definition #1 of mindfulness comes into play. To truly make mindful memories, caregivers consciously take efforts to teach kids respect for all humanity and the planet.
How Do You "Make Mindful Memories"?
Good question. There are many, many unique ways to make mindful memories.
While I'm not an expert on mindfulness, I'm committed to sharing activities and resources that I've used with kiddos over the past 10+ years. I also draw on what I've learned from wise co-workers, incredible families, podcasts, books, research papers, and most importantly, kids themselves!
Do You Offer Parenting Advice?
Nope. I'm not here to tell you how to parent your kid or which parenting style is best. In fact, I try to keep a lot of my content accessible to all caregivers, including early educators, grandparents, babysitters, nannies, teachers, and anyone that finds the material useful. There are plenty of awesome parenting coaches out there, just scroll through your Instagram feed. I also have zero intentions of shaming anyone for the products they buy or for their childrearing practices— to each their own.
